A hook and a jab

I just successfully wrote my first Subversion hook! And it was dead easy too (thanks to the Caffeinated Coder). Currently the hook just checks the commit message for an associated bug ID, and it doesn’t even hook into an actual bug-tracking system yet, but the (what-I-had-anticipated-to-be) difficult part is working.

In the future I’d like to ensure that people only check-in code against issues that they are currently working on (not just assigned to them). I’m also looking into using a post-commit hook to update our bug-tracking system with pertinent information. It’s all about automating mundane tasks.

Now we can actually preventing errant check-ins at work, instead of hoping people will do the right thing.
